John, I corresponded with you a few years back, when you were working on publishing your book. I'm so glad to see that it's a done deal and I can't wait to get my hands on a copy. You are a storyteller of the first order. A gust of bracing, breezy, Mersey freshness. I love Liverpool, and I love your stories. Remember The Somali Club! 7 May 2008 - Northampton, Massachusetts USA

I love this book . I read and re-read bits in any order I choose. John, your tales of man and boy are full of wit, humility and sensitivity. I laughed and cried as I was transported to a place I now desire to visit !! Definitely a gift idea for those who have everything and a gem for those who do not.! 25 March 2008 - The Cotswolds.

John, this has to be one of the most enjoyable books I have read, once started it cannot be put down. Your sense of humor is wonderful, every story made me smile and on occasions shed a tear. The vivid descriptions of Liverpool and its people have made a visit there a must. Thank you

Thanks for a glimpse of your work. I had no idea that such good prose and poetry was going to materialize through cyberspace.(Looking forward to reading Liverpool Tales when the library reopens).

Tim Lott said about first reading the work of his mentor Dorothy Rowe 'never had I seen such thoughts outside my own head' (to paraphrase). I had the same feeling reading John's work. 10 December 2007 - Newark on Trent
